To become a successful ECA, you must understand your product and your market. The best approach to being a successful ECA is to match the product to the needs (and pockets ;)) of your market. Too many ECAs fall in love with a product this is obsolete! Who cares if 'beanie babies' are your favorite. . . what really matters is does your market love 'beanie babies'! If they do then great but how do you find out?
Well, you survey your market. Ask them what they need and what they are reasonably willing to pay for it. Now that doesn't mean that you are going to 'low ball' the competition and kill your business profits. But what it does mean is that you are going to do everything that you can as a merchant to keep cost low and pass some savings to your market. That's being a smart ECA and it will make you a successful ECA as well.
