I think probably the first thing to do is identify the products they use which could be purchased from TripleClicks, do that before you talk to them. Then you can open with something like "You should see the shine on my car, I've been using BLAH from TripleClicks, it's great and I get bonus points every time I buy it"
With a bit of luck you can turn the conversation to other products they 'might' use, and the benefits of being a tripleClicks member or even and SFI Affiliate, which is even better.
Don't forget they may not be interested, don't pester them as friends, they will remember and come back to you at the next bar-b-que, and ask how it's going.
"hey look how clean and shiny my bar-b-que is......"
