As many people before me have pointed out - having/setting goals gives your actions a sense of direction, shows you the end result of your endavors.
What I would like to point out is that setting goals is important also in your life, simply because goals direct our actions and reflect what we want to achieve in life.
Remember one thing, however: nothing is carved in stone as far as your life is concerned. You are free to set, change, and re-set your goals to reflect your personal potential, needs, and desires to the fullest. The same is true at SFI, so just remember to review your goals and adjust them accordingly.
You may start small and then set the goal higher and higher, rewarding yourself on reaching each new level. Therefore, setting goals not only directs your actions, but also tells you how well you are doing. And don't be discouraged if getting there takes you more time than you have originally assumed.
