I personally go with a weekly newsletter and one follow-up email about the middle of the week,if necessary. The exception is if something breaks that I feel is of value to the team and really shouldn't wait.
Don't send emails just for the sake of doing it. If you don't have anything constructive to offer, you are much better off not saying anything at all.
Keep in mind that if they start receiving too many communications from you,they will just trash them without even opening them.
Writing effective emails takes a little practice but in time you'll learn to pass on helpful info in a short, informative manner.
