Rather than thinking about more importance between mentioned (because I see them both VERY important), I would concentrate on my best doing with both:
1. Initial contact: first impression is unique and happens only once with each contact.
We could attract, cause interest, in accordance with the prospect's needs and wishes if done well.
2. Follow-up: after caused interest, need to offer the right, deeper introduction and help, showing the way, which is as simple as possible to follow for the new prospect.
The quality of yours knowledge, experience, skills will determinate your success here and will probably determinate a big part of your prospect's success.
