In my experience, the best way to recruit good affiliates is by bearing in mind the following when recruiting by word of mouth:
1) Look for people who are desperately looking for work/extra income because they may be:
a. Unemployed
b. Laid Off / Retrenched
c. Working many long hours to receive a meager income which doesn't meet their needs
d. Students who need to fund their own studying
e. Entrepreneurs looking to start a business on a shoestring budget
f. Needing to sell their products to a broader customer base
2) Be prepared to sit with them and show them how SFI and TripleClicks work hand in hand. Many are the days I have sat with someone for 2-3 hours explaining how SFI and TripleClicks work and having them sign-up and then showing them how to gain their VersaPoints. This process needs to be followed up so that they know you have their best interests at heart and that you want to help them create an income that can eventually sustain them.
3) Make sure you emphasize the zero-tolerance policy of SFI regarding spamming. So many people don't understand that just sending an email with a link to someone without their permission is actually spamming. Remember to explain that they need to receive permission from the person/company they want to send the gateway link to.
4) To keep your affiliates active, make sure you create as many incentives as you think will keep them in the game. It may mean you have to invest a bit more in TCredits or Gift Cards or Gift Certificates, but it's worth it because you'll be teaching them to do the same with their downline.
