Firstly i think you need to gauge just how serious your affiliates are bout doing this. The first competition i ran was won by someone who had the highest VP but did nothing after 2 days so i would suggest putting a few conditions in there such as as VP trigger limit to be eligible to win. Then to show you are engaged in the competition send out weekly newsletters detailing up to date results of your competition so your affiliates can have a benchmark to hit to be better. However try to keep it light hearted and more importantly fun. If it doesn't work first time round don't be deterred from doing it again, different people react differently to a bit of competition, but your winners will be a good bet to earn you big money down the line!
