I think you must be prepared to give the best support possible to the affiliates who you are able to recruit using a PPC campaign. Any affiliates who you are able to recruit via a this type campaign are most likely not going to be able to afford a standing order anytime soon to maintain their Executive Affiliate rank.
Be prepared to support them emotionally. Let them know that it is possible to maintain their EA status if they would like to without spending money but that it will just take a little extra work. There are many people at SFI currently maintaining their EA rank without spending any money at all. You can also remind that that it is not manditory that they be an Executive Affiliate to move ahead with SFI. They can focus on their recruiting efforts first and the members they recruit will help them to maintain their rank later on via the support they give them using the Team Mailers.
Nevertheless, most will not believe their time here is worthwhile if they cannot maintain at least an EA rank so, be prepared to show them the many ways there are to earn extra points at SFI without spending lots of money, such as completing their to-do list every day, entering the Daily Grand drawing every day, becoming a Wave3 member so that they are eligible to "Pick-the-Price" on Pricebenders auctions that will earn them Tcredits which can be using on auctions, purchases or members listings...all of which can earn them more VPs....etc. They will need your support. Occasional reminders that they are are the right track would be very beneficial.
I would not run a large PPC campaign. Test a few different venues/types of advertisements to see what works/doesn't work for you. Don't put all of your eggs in one basket.
