I have experience with in-person presentations, direct mail, trade shows, handing out biz cards, network at events, etc. Can offline marketing be as effective for my SFI business as online marketing?

I think that if you are so experienced at marketing you will have no problems at SFI. You can use your knowledge in two ways (online and offline) while others (as me) are trying to learn to be good at least at one of them.
Use your offline experience to explain people about SFI and meanwhile, you can expend time learning at the site how to improve your marketing skills online.
In a short time, you will find that all you have learnt about both fields (online and offline) make you a great marketer, which is the final purpouse.

How often should I communicate with my Sponsor and Co-Sponsor?

I will make you another question: how often do you feel the need of contacting them? You should communicate with them as often as you think it is necessary, because each person has different times and doubts.
And in case you have no responsive Sponsor or Co-Sponsor, ask your A2A friends or look it up at the site (Forum, ASK SC, etc.)
Always ask, never let a doubt stop you!!!!
