I think there is no such thing as too much communication when both sides are interested and communicating with one another. The problem usually arises when one side is silent!
There can also be misinterpretations of each other's intentions and individual expectations. As a team leader,I find I may have sometimes sent too many "suggestions" too quickly. I do this because I want everyone to progress as quickly as I think they could or may wish to. But such wish may sometimes turn out to be simply assumptions on your part.I had a recent case where a downline asked a lot of questions. I answered them to my best ability and also made suggestions of how she may progress as quickly as possible. Now,she has stopped communicating and has also stopped visiting her SFI Affiliates Page regularly and doing daily tasks. What can one do except try and learn from the experience. So, I have now decided that I will answer questions when asked and send regular joint mails but not go out of my way to offer suggestions and advice. This may be right or wrong. The future will tell. This also raises some confusion for me but it cannot be helped.
So I would say, go by your gut feeling. Even if it eventually turns out to be wrong you will, at least, have the satisfaction of knowing that you did what you thought was right at the time.

When a person joins SFI, what things are the most important for him or her to do?
In my opinion, the first thing a new affiliate should do is to learn the business. I usually recommend they read the basics, Start and the 3-Step formula. At the same time I tell them not to get overwhelmed by the flood of information and that they will learn as they go along and keep doing their Daily, Weekly and Monthly Tasks.
Next, I encourage them to study how best they may earn from SFI/TripleClicks. That for this they need to lean Duplication and become ECA with their own store where they can sell their own products or products from TripleClicks or other ECAs. Duplication, in its various forms and retailing are the two key areas that will earn income.
Above all, learn to concentrate on building a very strong team and inspire your downline to do the same. This will also cover both duplication and retailing/sales.
Once an affiliate is willing to do the above, he/she becomes adept at forming his/her own opinions and making own plans and strategies for their business. They also become more interested in their business and spend a lot of time, doing more than they initially intended to and earning more. Alas! Most affiliates are either not interested or give up before reaching this stage. Perseverance is not a common virtue with most sign ups. This is the real challenge for all team leaders.
