How do I get new, anxious-to-earn-NOW affiliates to understand that it takes time to develop a successful business?

The first thing to do is cool their jets.
Plain and simple, they need a wake-up call, and a good way to do that is find some articles and reviews showing how people have been continually burned by get rich quick offers that turn out to be scams for the owners fast profits not the members.
Then show them how SFI started before all these failed businesses and is still here and will still be here when the next wave of collapses rob people of thousands of dollars and years of their lives.
SFI can be fairly quick to profits. Once I started working hard in SFI I was less than 3 months away from being profitable in my business and I started with no money to invest.
They will need to follow the training and listen close when it is repeated that for their best chances of success they need a blog or website of their own. Make sure that when George Little's Internet Income Course discusses things like capturing leads and converting sales they take notes.
Get them focused on offering the products for sale at TripleClicks and learning to be good affiliate marketers before pushing them to build huge downlines. That way they can teach their referrals the fastest path to profits so they too can be earning month in as little time as possible.
Be sure they know the value of strong communication and establish multiple means to contact their PSA as soon as possible, and be sure they are following up and being active sponsors. They don't have to give up on ideas of making money soon in their business but they need to know that it will take work, and certain tools and training are a must for it to happen.
Best of success to you and your team,

My approach to attracting new affiliates isn't working. What should I do now?

I don't know your approach so I can't say for sure what the cure is.
Most of the time the approach will have one of two needs. It will need Time to take hold and begin showing results from consistent application, or it will need minor adjustments until it's fine tuned. That is unless you are using bad tactics like Spamming Facebook Groups or using traffic exchanges because simply put you do more damage than good to your business with SPAM and TE's give horrible results.
Best advice is to adjust your approach to focus on capturing contact details and doing live follow-up with every prospect, instead of sending them directly to your gateway. If you can contact and work with your prospects you will breed a better crop of workers who are motivated by that personal connection and close support.
If you are posting classifieds ads have contact details for more information instead of a link saying go here join that. You will gain more respect and build strong business partnerships plus you gateway is never blocked for SPAM because you simply don't post it to the website to begin with.
Learn to network and add value to your social media community pages instead of dropping ads then leaving. Spam the group and they'll Spam you.
When possible learn to implement paid advertising campaigns and laser target the people you really want in your team. Aim for quality over quantity when given the opportunity to choose.

Why should I remain focused on my SFI business when there are other companies offering me allegedly similar opportunities?

What Similar Offers?
E-bay and Amazon do not pay their retail affiliates as well as SFI does in terms of gross commissions and you don't profit by sending them sellers, there is no royalty program like our ECA referral program.
You don't earn off up to 12 levels of downline through matching VP or from Co-Sponsored Affiliates who are placed in your team for free. You definitely don't get to share in the profits of the entire company like you do with the TripleClicks Executive Bonus Pool which is how you Versa Points turn into cash.
E-bay and Amazon also don't have half the training library of SFI and when they do send out articles they tell you how to spend hundreds of dollars on Pay-Per-Click to generate sales or how to get the best rates buying display advertising in bulk.
Other programs outside retail often operate illegally putting the claimed ability to earn money as their sales pitch and then they sell you an over priced low quality product that you must buy and sell a minimum amount of to earn anything.
At SFI there is no upgrade. You buy if you like when you like and can earn money even if you never spend a dime.
Most of the other companies haven't been around 16 months let alone 16 years.
Most other companies wont be around 16 months from now much less 16 years from now but SFI Will.
So tell me how these other programs are similar to SFI.

When starting out in SFI, is it better to invest in advertising or in an EA-qualifying purchase?

Why choose? A standing order of 125Tcredits now comes with a minimum of 2 new PSA per month, Just bid fifty times in an auction and you earn a PSA. Bid 100 times to earn two referrals and save the other 25Tcredits to for next month so you can buy 3 PSA that month.
The other option is t try to win more Tcredits with your bids making your potential windfall dozens of new PSA per month.
What is the best way to convince someone who is over 50 that they should get started with SFI?

State the facts. SFI is perfect for people of all ages and those 50 plus will love it's wholesome roots and dedication to building a work ethic and maintaining a high moral standard.
SFI is not a new business, they have been around for 16 years and their parent company has been doing this type of service for 3 decades. Combined with the Bronze Membership in the BBB and consistent high reviews you can not find a more certain investment when looking for an online business.
SFI Training
You wont get lost in jargon or filled with fluff. The training is broken down into easy to swallow pieces and put in layman's terms. Many of the things they will learn will directly relate to things they already know.
Investment is minimal. If they are on a fixed income they can still run a viable business with under $40 a month in cost. If they spend more it doesn't change the results, only the time table.
SFI can become the perfect supplemental income earned on a schedule that leaves plenty of room to enjoy retirement if they are at or nearing retirement age. They can even leave their business to a spouse or adult child should they pass on. This business can be a means of securing an inheritance that is by and large not subject to estate taxes.
If a person leaves cash or property, stocks, or bonds then those items are assessed a estate tax. But leaving their downline in SFI is not leaving a set sum of money, it is more of having someone assume a job title or position with someone else's company and all earnings from that venture will be new money earned as income by the heir. It would be the equivalent of a CEO for a public company naming their daughter Company President and training them to step into the role of CEO when they are gone.
SFI above all appeals to our older citizens because in a day and age where people are profiting selling businesses with no walls and products made of air like e-books, 90% of out business is based on real tangible products. You are not selling a virtual membership, or digital this and that in most instances you are able to market and sell things people need, use, and want.
SFI allows them to open a store without the overhead, long hours, and hard work. They can make good money referring buyers to other people's products and have full choice of what to promote and what not to promote.

How does a2a help me build my SFI business?

A2A friends are great for moral support and asking quick questions related to the business. Posting to them via stream gives you practice for the support you will soon be giving your new PSA/CSA in the near future, and reading their quotes and advice expands your mind in new ways.
All of the above are great for your business.
SFI is a people business and the more you learn to network and converse with new people across many walks of life the better you will be able to interact on social media sites, in forums, and through blog comments etc.. Networking here can give you contacts and teach you the art of the proverbial Ice Breaker. You will learn to express yourself and communicate your business better when talking to others as it becomes a natural part of your day.
I personally am mentoring several of my A2A friends and have several GTL and PTL members who keep me going with positive comments and tips, training links and co-op ideas etc.. as well. These relationships teach me how to be a better broker of information. I can learn something at 10AM and find someone who needs that info at 2PM and help someone the same way I was helped earlier in the day. The impact it can have on life, lifestyle, and livelihood is tremendous.
So I see my nearly 500 A2A contacts as pure gold. They mean the world to me.

Be dedicated, hard working, consistent, and approachable.
Learn your business by studying the lessons of the Launch Pad, Forum, and Internet Income Course daily so you know SFI and the path to success. As you learn get in the practice of teaching by helping new affiliates find answers to their questions through the forum and ASK SC. This will give you vital training in how to support your downline.
Practice what you preach, and achieve some form of progress each day. Show off the results of your hard work to your downline. Make sure you have a dedicated e-mail address to handle support of your team at SFI, download Skype and learn to use it, and start a blog. Be able to be found and ready to help when your downline needs you.
Above all invest in your success. I don't know how many thousands of people I have seen fail in online business because they don't set a good example for their referrals and invest in their own business. While you can stay a free member forever with SFI I can guarantee it will be a long road with a ton of hard work because your recruits will do as you do.
Hope this get's you started.

What are the things about SFI that most convince people to join?

Too many say Free to Join and that's sad because SFI is more than just a free program, it's a amazing training system, a collective of powerful network marketing leaders, a massive retail force, and a rock solid program that has over 16 years in business.
SFI is stability, growth, innovation, education, and is one of the most rewarding systems of success online.
TripleClicks offers the SFI member over 120,000 ways to make money if you prefer to focus on product sales as your business. Even more if you focus on finding ECA who sell products that aren't offered at TC or are in need of competition to drive the price down. It offers the recruiting magnets of Eager Zebra Games where one can win T-credits to use in auctions or directly to buy many great prizes and Price Benders Auctions where members can save up to 90% or more off name brand products.
SFI is a close nit family of marketing professionals and through tools like Ask SC and the SFI Forums you can get any marketing question answered by a range of experts and professionals using the techniques daily. So the next time someone say tell them it's free to join tell them that SFI is the best investment of time or money on the internet today. It cost you nothing while you learn the ropes and offers everything you could expect from owning a franchise with no ceiling on how far you can go.

How can we get across to our affiliates that investing minor (at least) amounts of money into SFI is smart?

Remind them that even Sears which started in a old bar with a handful of printed catalogs and no on hand inventory still needed money for catalogs. Buying things like training through IAHBE, or PSA's through the S-Builder Coop, x-cards, ECA brochuers etc.. all help grow their business and show the professional they are becoming. This is a business, not a game or hobby so invest in yourself.

There is no such thing as a sure thing among safelist or traffic exchanges but with safelist there are some things to look at early on that will help you know if a poor result is a deliver-ability issue or an issue with your Subject Line and E-mail body.
I personally look for safelist that fit the following criteria.
1. They're credit based.
2. They list total members and active members separate.
3. They don't sell blaster memberships, not one of those safelist has ever resulted in any kind of conversion for me or anyone I know.
4. You don't earn more than 20-30 credits per e-mail you open. remember this, if they give 1 credit per e-mail you will receive 1 e-mail per e-mail you send, if they give 20 credits they must send you twenty e-mails to cover each e-mail you actually read. If you don't want to receive more than 2,000 e-mails to earn 100 credits watch your exchange rate. More e-mails sent means lower odds your e-mails will be read instead of the hundreds of other options.
5. Choose list that allow you to send e-mails to less than 10% of their membership per day. Again this is a matter of delivering fewer total e-mails to each user which increases open rates. My best list let's you as a free member mail 2500 of their 40,000 active members every 3 days. It out performs an membership I canceled that sent to 10,000 members daily in terms of open rates and conversions.
6. Solo Ads should be special and costly. These B.S. sites that claim mail real solo ads daily don't even know what a solo ad is. A solo ad should go to the contact mail not the list mail of the user. They should be limited to no more than 20 of them sent in a day and should offer the reader added value in receiving and opening these mails be it a chance at cash rewards, a fee paid per open, or a higher than normal number of credits. If the list sends too many solo ads then they will get the kind of open rates you see with the main list and your conversions will be terrible.
You can increase your results in Safelist by purchasing upgrades but your best results are typically from high value Solo Ads which can cost you up to $129 per send but have a better chance of gaining a return on your investment. Be frugal, don't listen to people that say join a lot of list and mail to as many as possible because the real numbers game should not be quantity of unread e-mails sent, it should be quality of results because you can't pay the bills with 1 million sent but unopened e-mails, only with solid sales and sign-ups.
