Social Media is about socializing, not advertising so be a good neighbor and friend first.
People like to accomplish 3 things in social media. They want to receive positive feedback that affirms their likes and passions. Complements, likes, shares, all feed the human ego and help break the ice. Let's face it people love to be flattered and shown love and attention.
People also look to be entertained on social media. Major social sites have proven this theory by way of sites like LOL Catz, ICanHazCheeseburger, College Humor, and Youtube. Making people laugh, and helping them unwind and relax is how you gain their attention for your own post.
The last metric is education. People use social media to get smarter. They hang out with their professional contacts, in industry forums, and on niche blogs to become stronger in their careers. They also seek product reviews and user ratings and want to find out what's new in technology. They spend hundreds of hours a year learning new things even if they claim they hate learning or hated school.
Using these 3 factors to fill needs also gains you important information about what your friends and contacts are looking for in life and allows you to build a relationship based on how you can help them reach their goals. That's where your business grows.
If you know Sarah is looking for a new computer you can send her a link to a comparison of 2 or more models or a review of a brand she has mentioned and she will never feel spammed, and will actually thank you for the information. She most likely will never know that not only did you write the review but that you also get paid if she buys through the links on the blog page or website.
Likewise you can utilize professional relationships to grow your team. You can mix post about how to do things like generate traffic to a website, or creating great blog post, and add in an occasional story about what is going well for you at SFI, and how owning your own home based business has impacted your life. Some of your contacts will have questions, some will follow links back to your blog and be exposed to your advertisements in the sidebar or header.
In no manner did you every send them anything that would make them feel advertised to and since you have filled their needs they will have a positive opinion about you and have trust for your thoughts. This builds your personal brand and how it is perceived to your prospects and clients which is called marketing.
NEVER SPAM:
Those groups that say advertise here on Facebook are SPAM forums and they not only don't work but they make it easy for social media sites to find spammers and block links of the offending companies. Most SFI gateways are blocked on Facebook, Twitter, and Craig's List because of people using these spam groups and spam tools like Facebook Auto Poster, or blog comment blasters, low grade email blasters, and FFA page networks.
Once you are publicly accused of SPAM and/or get an account suspended or deleted for it your reputation is ruined. You never, ever get ahead with this bad behavior, and the people you are sending ads too are either in the group just long enough to place their own ad or never requested to read about your business.
Not only is SPAM bad for business and a destroyer of reputations but it's also a crime in most countries carrying Fines and Jail Time. One Spammer in Canada a few years ago was fined over $4 million dollars and sentenced to 25 years in prison for his automated spamming of Facebook Members, so DO NOT SPAM.
