You should not bother them too much and waste your time but have timely contacts to share information and various aspects of business growth and opportunities to let them ponder and get back to become active some day.
You should devise a different approach with them which may include:
1. A blog write up that contains ways and means to highlight the growth aspects and business opportunities at SFI.
2. Weekly / Monthly Team mails including training material to have successful startup and how to grow their business at lower or no budgets?
3. Providing your profile page links in your mails to showcase your growth and success to them.

Being a finalist in E365 contest is definitely a great motivation for anyone but that is not all. It is just a part to help you achieve or win some additional aid to make yourself successful at SFI.
If at some point due to any reason you could not qualify for it, your determination to succeed should not be taken away. Rather you should have the vigor to succeed with or without it. Your concentration should be at the bigger picture to earn more commissions and take steps towards its achievement.
Further it also alerts you to inform your team members about the importance of it.
If a particular active affiliate faces this situation, as a sponsor I would definitely make it up for their efforts through my co-op and timely distribution of gift certificate. You can also help them with some T Credits and re-assigning some PSAs.
